چکیده

A reduction of more than 4 orders of magnitude of survivors was obtained by exposing a Bacillus Stearothermophilus spores contaminated surface to an atmospheric pressure DBD post-discharge for 20 minutes. Decontamination mechanisms are investigated assuming that (i) inactivation is obtained when the bacteria DNA is fragmented, (ii) the protein coats are the main protection of the cell core DNA in the case of bacteria spores. The degradation of DNA (plasmid) and protein (RNAse A) samples submitted to the postdischarge is evaluated according to the operating conditions: gas composition, treatment time and sample state, i.e. hydrated or dried samples.

Applications of Dielectric Barrier Discharges as aerosol charger

Aerosol particle charging is involved in many scientific and industrial applications and especially in measurements based on electrostatic classification. Non-thermal Atmospheric Pressure Electrical Discharges are an efficient way to charge particles. We report here the charge distribution of aerosol at the exit of a Dielectric Barrier Discharges (DBD) and discuss the potential applications. Th...

Lecture 22 : Atmospheric Plasma

Atmospheric-pressure plasmas are used in a variety of materials processes. Traditional sources include transferred arcs, plasma torches, corona discharges, and dielectric barrier discharges. In arcs and torches, the electron and neutral temperatures exceed 3000 C and the densities of charge species range from 10 –10 cm . Due to the high gas temperature, these plasmas are used primarily in metal...

Deposition of polymer-like coatings with a nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure

Atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharges (AP-DBD) generally result in highly cross-linked coatings with a low retention of the monomer structure. Moreover, when high concentrations of precursor or/and reactive gas is used, coatings become less homogenous, less conformal and rougher. This study highlights the possibility to deposit smooth, conformal and polymer-like coatings thanks to ...

Atmospheric pressure plasma of dielectric barrier discharges*

The dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) has a number of industrial applications and has been a subject of research for many years. Many studies have been carried out to understand the underlying DBD physics. Despite the fact that much progress has been made, some important issues are still far from being clear. In this work, we summarize the basics of DBD physics and introduce innovative concept...

Electron current extraction from radio frequency excited micro-dielectric barrier discharges

Micro dielectric barrier discharges (mDBDs) consist of micro-plasma devices (10–100 lm diameter) in which the electrodes are fully or partially covered by dielectrics, and often operate at atmospheric pressure driven with radio frequency (rf) waveforms. In certain applications, it may be desirable to extract electron current out of the mDBD plasma, which necessitates a third electrode. As a res...
